Marketing Issues with SMBs & Nonprofits
I built and sold my own business. And I've worked in a marketing agency that focused on small to medium sized businesses (SMBs) and nonprofits.
I’ve seen these marketing issues with companies and nonprofits over and over:
*Let's be real, we all want that proverbial “throat to choke” if things go poorly.
If any of these issues are plaguing your company or organization, they’re keeping you from your big goals.

FAQs
Both provide visionary leadership to the marketing of the company.
- The CMO will be a part of C-suite planning and strategy that involves marketing.
- The Head of Marketing will often have more of a hands-on role than a CMO.
During your assessment, we’ll determine what will serve your company/organization the best.
No. I am technically a 1099 contractor. But consider me as much a part of your team as any W2 employee.
This is part of the cost savings for you — no payroll costs, benefits, etc. But you have a dedicated marketing leader on your team.
At this time, I work for a flat monthly fee. For the right company and situation, I might consider a percentage of revenue.
My fee is determined on a case by case basis, depending on the scope of the job and size of the business/organization.
Even though you aren’t making the commitment of a full-time hire, it’s best to view this as a similar investment.
No matter what anyone will promise you, marketing efforts take time to pay off. It's a long-game, not a sprint.
I also know businesses and organizations sometimes need flexibility. That’s why I have a 90-day rolling cancellation policy.
That will give us time to transition projects and campaigns to an in-house team or agency and get them up to speed.
No. I am not an agency. And this benefits you!
As a fractional HOM/CMO, I work for you, as will other members of your marketing team — whether they’re in-house, freelancers, or an agency.
This allows me to help you build a robust marketing team that’s tied to your company — not me.
It won’t disappear if I transition out.
Yep! Go here.
About
Get to know me...
My path to marketing was NOT typical. When I started an online education business in my 30s, that's when I started my education—copywriting, paid ads, SEO, website development, graphic design, video editing, email marketing, and on and on.
Eventually, I learned where my sweet spots are—strategy, copywriting, email marketing, and leadership, and I built a team to help me with the rest.

If we work together, here's what you can expect...
- High energy to launch new projects & initiatives
- A leader, team-builder, and encourager
- Big-picture thinking and strategic planning that focuses on practical execution
- I'll ask a lot of questions when we analyze issues to make sure we truly understand it
- Someone who doesn't always take himself too seriously, but takes the work seriously
- I'll probably order fish tacos when we go to a Mexican restaurant
And a little about my family...
Shannon and I have been married since August 2001. We have four kids, Aedan (2005), Addie (2007), Corbin (2011), and Cora (2013). Shannon teaches fourth grade and the kids all play multiple sports.
Let's just say... we stay busy.
We just reached a new milestone this past May (2024) when Aedan graduated high school. (This pic is from graduation night.)
We love hiking (mostly—Cora's not the biggest fan). And we like playing cards and board games. NONE of us like losing.
Only one of my children inherited my wife's quiet demeanor. The rest are more like me... for which I apologize to her daily.
We live in Lexington, Ohio, which is just outside of Mansfield.
